JetFighter V: Homeland Protector

FREE DOWNLOAD LAPTOP  |  Jet Fighter V: Homeland Protector is a great example of the saying, "You can not please everyone." For those of you who need help with your Venn diagram, I just wanted to show that gamers are a subset of all the people here. And while there certainly are some people who absolutely adore this game, Jet Fighter V tries to blend realism with accessibility and we are left with a title that is not approached as Top Gun and nearly not as sophisticated as Falcon 4.0. You can take it as either mild or sim arcade game too complicated. Trying to reconcile the trend for this type of review makes my brain hurt. The same thing could really play the game, depending on your expectations.

The single player campaign tells the story of the attack on the southern half of the West Coast. Super-giant operator, hostility and nuclear annihilation of all the press in Korea here. Now I live in San Francisco, I take this sort of thing very seriously. I mean, it's all fun and games when the communists tried to take over Midwest. It's not like we do not have enough corn, right? But now they moved into my house, I feel the need to wax angry.

In order to save my country (and southern California, while I'm at it), I have to take to the skies in one of three aircraft - the F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-22 Raptor, or Fighter F-35 Joint Strike. (Since this all Lockheed aircraft, it is strange that no such brand anywhere in the game.) Because this is the last fighter was not even in service yet, it's sort of a coup for the Jet Fighter V to allow gamers to try it. At least, it would be if the aerodynamics or modeling system looks very different from the other two planes. This is where I first began to suspect that the simulation has been tempered by a touch of Afterburner.

Actual flight dynamics do not seem very different from one plane to another. Sure, speed is different - it's immediately apparent. But things like the response rate and the roll control surfaces seem too generic to justify the different aircraft models. Even the discount airline model of similarity, there are some common aggravations with flight modeling. For one thing, I never could get my throttle to drop below 60%, even with the throttle pulled all the way back. Similarly, the absence of a form of air brake keep you from having as much freedom of movement as you should. Of course, tactics turn-and-burn is not always the order of the day here, but it would be nice to have more control over your speed during turns.

Another inconsistency be offended, especially some of the seemingly contradictory concepts behind the game. On the one hand you have the hardcore features such as blackouts and one-shot, one kill of the fuselage. On the other hand you have a nice little arrow that directs you toward the targeted enemy and a little pop-up on the HUD that says "Shoot" when you've got a good lock. And while the fashion radar has been abstracted somewhat to increase its usefulness, more advanced features, such as functional and chaff LANTIRN system, should not be too much of a problem because there is a solid tutorial that introduces some of the key concepts. What tutorial did not explain why your own electronic counter-measures will remove your own radar, forcing you to fly in a state of lowered consciousness.
