Skin Health And Slowing Down The Aging Process


Although our skin is the biggest organ in our body it's also probably the most neglected one. People have been very abusive of their skin failing to escalate the work it does for the whole body. Ageing is best evidenced by the condition of our skin. Our skin changes as we age: we notice the presence of wrinkles and fine lines, it becomes dry and thin, we may see age spots and skin pigmentations plus its healing ability decreases too. There are a lot of factors that contribute to skin ageing, mostly the kind of lifestyle we practice or the health choices we have catalyse the ageing process of our skin.

Protect yourself from Mr. Sun. Exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays is known to be one of the major contributing factors for skin ageing. Exposure to the harmful UV rays does not only predispose you to the dreaded cancer, it also makes you look older than you actually are. Good thing is that this is avoidable. If you can't seem to stay away from Mr. Sun because he's just too hot, might as well use preventive measures like SPFs. Using sunblock that offers a wide range of protection from UVA and UVB may help minimize the ageing effect of the sun's UV rays.

Break up with cigarettes. What's good in staying in a relationship when it only gives you bad stuff? Smoking constricts your blood vessels which decreases blood supply as a result. This decrease in blood supply means less oxygen and nutrients delivered to the skin resulting in an older, dull-looking skin. Smoking also damages collagen, that which gives your skin its elasticity. And oh, did you know that the facial gestures you do when smoking such as pouting your lips and squinting your eyes can give you wrinkles? Your relationship with smoking only jeopardizes your health so it's best that you break up with it.

Cool it off with stress. While stress is an unavoidable daily occurrence, staying away from it is not impossible. It is important to keep track of your stress level as it escalates skin ageing. Learning several relaxation techniques may help you combat stress reducing skin ageing. And not only does keeping your stress in check minimizes the likeliness of skin ageing, it also makes you feel younger. So hit the sack at the right time and get that rest you owe your body.

Don't be a couch potato. Physical activities, exercise to be exact, help tone your muscles. Plus when you do exercise, you sweat out the toxins that may cause your skin to look old. Physical exercise also keep your blood flowing, giving your skin the nutrients it needs to stay and look healthy. So if you think that being a couch potato only impacts your weight, depriving you of your desired figure, think again.

Take it easy on your skin. Many products promised us a younger looking skin in a matter of blah blah blah days. These products' promises to our skin may be contested but the point here is knowing how much your skin can handle. Yes, make up makes us prettier and that creams moisturize our skin or minimize wrinkles and dark spots but if we put too much of these substances, our skin might just do the opposite. Learn how to use substances in moderation and do not abuse your skin. Avoiding the use of harmful products on your skin will surely do your skin a favor.
