Type 2 Diabetes - Foods To Help Diabetics Fight Inflammation

Inflammation is a chronic issue where Type 2 diabetes is concerned. Carrying around excess weight also makes matters worse. But one of the ways inflammation can be helped and brought under control, is by eating particular foods.

The following is a list of foods that are both diabetes friendly and also helpful in warding off the effects of inflammation:

1. Free-range beef. Many people like beef, but beef that has been raised on grain doesn't have as high levels of omega-3 oils as prairie-fed beef. Also, meat from grain-fed animals is higher in saturated fat.

2. Extra virgin olive oil. Ordinary olive oil certainly doesn't carry the fat benefits of the extra-virgin oil variety. But once you drop out of the olive oil family and into other types of oils, the nutritional benefits drop also.

3. Coldwater fish. This group includes salmon, sardines, cod and several others. These fish are jam-packed with omega-3 oils which not only combat inflammation, but help protect your body against heart disease and stroke.

4. Blueberries. These berries carry some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any fruit, and of most foods on the planet. They also protect your body against another side effect of inflammation... aging.

5. Cherries. This is another wonderful fruit packed with loads of antioxidants. Besides fighting inflammation, cherries are also easy on a diabetic's blood sugar levels.

6. Green tea. If you're a tea drinker, try green tea. Green tea contains specific properties that fight inflammation. It also aids in preventing strokes and heart disease, and to fight infection.

7. Broccoli. Actually, broccoli a member of the cabbage family and other members including kale, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, are foods loaded with antioxidants. These foods also help your body produce its own antioxidants by providing an important nutrient... sulfur.

8. Turmeric. This popular spice is full of anti-inflammatory properties. It is one of the most beneficial of all the spices available.

9. Salads. The key ingredients of a healthy salads are each a contributing factor to fighting inflammation. From members of the lettuce family, tomatoes, spinach and even the type of dressing you use, they all work together to give you plenty of cancer fighting properties, as well.

10. Ginger. Ginger is recognized internationally as a healing spice, but different countries use it for entirely different medical purposes. This spice is not only good at warding off inflammation, but it also contains the ability to help with blood sugar levels.

Researchers are also studying another health benefit of ginger: namely its ability to reduce the risk of heart disease. The cause of death for two out of three people with Type 2 diabetes is heart disease or stroke.

The beauty of these food choices is they can each be blended into meals easily; some can be used as snacks or many can be utilized in healthy smoothies. Regardless of how they are consumed, this broad selection of foods gives you plenty of options for enjoying them.

Type 2 diabetes is no longer a condition you must just live with. It need not slowly and inevitably get worse. Now is the time to take control of this disease... and take back your life.
